The Micro Mosquito

I’ve been captivated by these little RC helicopters on the market, specifically the Micro Mosquito. Our parent company has another website www.greatdeals.ca and they bought loads of these little helicopters to sell over Christmas and they’re cheap, only $50!! For me, I have been in heaven since this feeds my desire for hovering that I developed when I was a kid.

Let me give you a bit of back story. When I was 12 I wanted a buy an RC helicopter. After months of drooling over catalogues and nagging my parents I got my chance. On a cold Sunday in January he took me to a hobby shop and let me look around, we wrote down all the parts that I needed and then totaled them up. $1500. A lot of money for a 12 year old and back in that day, a lot of money for a dad too!

I asked my dad if I could have it, and said “of course, you can buy anything you want” I got all excited because there were many things I wanted in addition to the RC Helicopter! And then followed up with “but you’ll have to earn the money and buy it yourself”. That was a bit of a shattering comment. Because as many kids, I wanted it now!!

Being an enterprising fella, my dad had a plan, that night we sat down and worked out how I’d be earning money by working at his store stocking shelves and doing chores etc. If I earned $750 he’d put in the rest and I’d get my helicopter. Mind you, I slacked off at work, didn’t really like stocking shelves and called in sick a few times. What else can you expect a 12 year old to do? Anyway long story short, it was a year before I earned that money, and when the time came to spend my hard earned money I sure as shit wasn’t going to spend it on such an expensive toy!!

Fast forward to December 2006 when I find out that there are these tiny little helicopters for fifty bucks that you can fly indoors. They come assembled and ready to fly, no need to spend weeks assembling it and no need to practice for months in order to take off (like the big ones). As you can imagine, I’m in heaven.

I plan on taking one out in my backyard when the wind dies down. I want to see how the squirrels react to a giant mosquito!
